PAT Testing In Wickford (ITEE)

TISS Electrical carry out certified PAT (ITEE) testing across Wickford for offices, shops, warehouses and light industrial units, in line with the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. Whether you run an independent shop on The Broadway or a busy warehouse floor, our engineers work through your site with as little disruption to the working day as possible. Every item is checked using Bluetooth data logging and recorded on a clear written report, so your compliance records are ready whenever an insurer or inspector asks.

TISS Electrical carry out certified PAT testing for businesses across Wickford, keeping offices, warehouses, retail units and commercial premises compliant throughout the year.

Wickford Business Park, off Robert Way with quick access to the A127 and A130, holds a large share of the town’s warehouse and light industrial space, while the town centre is mostly offices, independent shops and service businesses. A small office and a busy warehouse floor need very different testing plans, so our engineers plan each visit around the equipment you actually use.

Get in touch through our contact form and we’ll confirm what your premises needs and when your next test is due.

How Often Does Equipment Need PAT Testing?

It depends on the equipment and how hard it’s used. The IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment sets out suggested starting intervals. Handheld tools and extension leads used daily on a warehouse or workshop floor may need testing every 3 to 6 months, while office IT equipment that rarely moves can often go well over a year between tests. Your risk assessment sets the final schedule, and we’ll recommend intervals for your site after the first visit.

Is PAT Testing A Legal Requirement?

Not by name, but the duty behind it is. The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require employers to keep electrical equipment maintained so it doesn’t cause danger, and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and PUWER 1998 add wider duties to keep work equipment safe. The law doesn’t set a testing method or a fixed interval, so most businesses use regular PAT testing as the clearest way to show they’ve met that duty.

An up to date test record is also useful evidence if an insurer or inspector asks how your equipment has been maintained.

What Happens If An Item Fails?

If an item fails, it’s marked on your report with an advisory photo showing which item it is and where it’s kept. It won’t be labelled as passed while the fault is still there, and we’ll tell you whether it needs repairing or replacing before anyone uses it again.

Areas We Cover Around Wickford

Our office is in Chelmsford, just up the A130, and we provide PAT testing across Wickford and the surrounding area, including:

● Shotgate

Much of Shotgate was built after the Archer family sold farmland for development in the late 1920s. The Hodgsons Way Industrial Estate followed in 1989 and still houses a mix of trade and light industrial units.

● Rayleigh

Rayleigh’s High Street runs up towards Rayleigh Mount, the Norman castle site now cared for by the National Trust. Most of the town’s trade and workshop premises are on the Brook Road Industrial Estate. See our page on PAT testing in Rayleigh.

● Runwell

Bordering Wickford to the north, Runwell is largely residential, with St Luke’s Park built on the former Runwell Hospital site.

● Basildon

A short trip south along the A132, Basildon has some of the largest employment areas in south Essex, including the Cranes Farm Road and Southfields business areas where offices sit alongside warehouse and manufacturing units. Find out more about PAT testing in Basildon.

● Battlesbridge

The antiques centre in Battlesbridge fills a group of old mill buildings beside the River Crouch, with independent dealers and tea rooms under one roof.

● Rawreth

Between Wickford and Rayleigh, Rawreth is mostly farmland and homes. The Rawreth Industrial Estate off Rawreth Lane provides workshop and warehouse space for local firms.

● South Woodham Ferrers

South Woodham Ferrers was planned as a new town by Essex County Council from the 1970s, with its shops and offices grouped around Queen Elizabeth II Square.

● Nevendon

Across the A127 from Wickford, Nevendon sits close to the Burnt Mills Industrial Estate on Basildon’s northern edge. Its medieval parish church, St Peter’s, still stands in the village.

Frequently Asked Questions About PAT Testing In Wickford

How much does PAT testing cost in Wickford?

Cost depends on how many items are on site and how the premises is laid out, so a small shop and a full warehouse are quoted differently. Tell us roughly what you have and we’ll give you a clear figure before anything is booked.

Is ITEE testing the same as PAT testing?

Yes. ITEE stands for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment, the name the IET gave the process in the 5th edition of its Code of Practice. It’s the same service most people still call PAT testing, covering portable appliances and other equipment that plugs into the mains.

Can testing be booked outside normal business hours?

Yes. If your site needs testing before opening, after closing or around a shift pattern, we’ll arrange the visit to fit.

Do you cover single office units as well as larger industrial sites?

Yes. A unit with a handful of items gets the same attention as a full warehouse floor, and it’s priced on the size of the job.

Can PAT testing be done at the same visit as other electrical testing?

Yes. If your fixed wire testing (EICR) or emergency lighting test is due around the same time, we can cover them together through our combination testing, which means fewer visits to your site.
