TISS Electrical carry out certified PAT testing for businesses across Canvey Island, keeping offices, warehouses, retail units and commercial premises compliant throughout the year.
Charfleets Industrial Estate is one of Canvey Island’s main employment areas, with industrial, manufacturing and distribution businesses operating from the western side of the island. Furtherwick Road has a different mix, with independent shops and other town centre businesses. An industrial unit and a town centre shop can have very different testing requirements, so our engineers plan each visit around the equipment you actually use.

How Often Does Equipment Need PAT Testing?
It depends on the equipment and how hard it’s used. The IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment sets out suggested starting intervals. Hand-held tools and extension leads used daily on a warehouse or workshop floor may need testing every 3 to 6 months, while office IT equipment that rarely moves can often go well over a year between tests. Your risk assessment sets the final schedule, and we’ll recommend intervals for your site after the first visit.
Is PAT Testing A Legal Requirement?
Not by name, but the duty behind it is. The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require employers to keep electrical equipment maintained so it doesn’t cause danger, and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and PUWER 1998 add wider duties to keep work equipment safe. The law doesn’t set a testing method or a fixed interval, so most businesses use regular PAT testing as the clearest way to show they’ve met that duty.
An up to date test record is also useful evidence if an insurer or inspector asks how your equipment has been maintained.
What Happens If An Item Fails?
If an item fails, it’s marked on your report with an advisory photo showing which item it is and where it’s kept. It won’t be labelled as passed while the fault is still there, and we’ll tell you whether it needs repairing or replacing before anyone uses it again.
